Summary of our Budataste Food Tour:

Overall, we have both meaty and sweet stops, and a traditional Hungarian palinka, or beer, or wine stop. As a great bonus, we pass alongside three Budapest sights. These famous landmarks are great photo opportunities.

Typical Budapest afternoon

Our first stop after departing from our meeting location is for some great goulash. Everyone has their own favorite family recipe for Goulash. This location makes their version with top quality, locally sourced, Hungarian Grey Cattle. Hidden behind the back kitchen at this location is a secret part of Hungarian Jewish history of Budapest that you won’t want to miss.

Second, Exploring the Jewish Quarter

Exploring South East, we walk through Gozsdu – a bustling alleyway full of cafes, restaurants, and lots of people – to our langos stop.  This family-run authentic Hungarian stop is tucked away at the beginning of the Jewish quarter. Here you’ll try some great traditional langos and palinka: a typical Hungarian snack.

Third, two top Budapest sights

The first sight is the Dohány Street Synagogue, a religious sight who has more historical value then the next sight. This synagogue was completed in 1859 and is still the largest synagogue in Europe. The Pest Jewish Ghetto was home to around 70,000 people at its height in 1944. Thousands were buried here.

The next sight we will check out Szimpla Kert, the first ruin Bar in Budapest. Even if you don’t make it for a night out here, it’s worth a visit. We will walk through the location, which has not changed much since its opening. There are a ton of great and interesting spaces here to snap some awesome pictures.

Hungarian meats

After a brief break from food, our next stop is a sampling of Hungarian meats. These are eaten commonly at family dinners as appetizers, and are eaten with paprika, bread, and crackling.

Hungarian Cheese

Not too far from this is a small market where locals buy fresh fruits, cheeses, and other foods. This locals market is where we will have out Hungarian cheese tasting. We will try locally sourced cheese from family farms around Budapest.

Local sweet snack

After all of these heavy foods, we will try a local favorite sweet snack: the Hungarian strudel. Our last stop is a great local strudel house that uses his family recipe to make the cities best strudels.

Loved loved the food tour! It was very convenient convenient for our schedule! We just did our normal sightseeing and stopped at the food places where we wanted to taste the different dishes. All shopkeepers can speak English and we’re very inviting and sweet.
